My bet would be the agitator kit Agitator Repair Kit If the washer won't agitate this agitator repair kit may solve the problem. The kit contains the components that wear out over time. This is a relatively easy repair. Drive Block or Bell If the washer won't agitate the drive block or bell might be worn out or broken. The drive block connects the washer transmission to the agitator, if it's worn out the transmission shaft will still move back and forth but the agitator will either stay still or move slightly. Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer won't agitate the door lock assembly should be checked.
The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design. Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer won't agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem.
The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity.
The switches should have continuity according to their design. Motor Coupling If the washer won't agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and transmission. Drive Belt If the washer won't agitate the drive belt might have worn out. Over time the drive belt will fail just from normal use. Replace the belt every two or three years depending on how much the washer is used.

Motor Control Board If the washer won't agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly. U-Joint Kit If the washer is won't agitate the U-Joint may have failed. This is the primary drive mechanism for the agitation motion in this washer.
Although this is not a very difficult repair for a DIY'er with some experience, the part is expensive and so it may be worth considering a new washer. Drive Motor If the washer won't agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged it will have to be replaced. Enter your model number to see parts for your washing machine.
Stator Assembly If the washer won't agitate the stator assembly at the back of the washer tub might be bad or damaged. The rotor is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the rotor fails or is damaged the washer might not spin or agitate. Check the rotor for damaged magnets or other defects. Rotor Assembly If the washer won't agitate the rotor assembly at the back of the washer tub might be bad or damaged.
The rotor is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the rotor fails or is damaged the washer might not spin or agitate. Check the rotor for damaged magnets or other defects. I had this problem. It turned out to be the motor coupling, but in a WEIRD way.
One end of it (the transmission end) was stripped almost clean of the indentation that makes it 'catch' on the transmission. Anant ambani. Unpleasantly, the transmission shaft is also partly damaged, which must have contributed the the problem. Presumably, going on way (spinning), it still caught enough (being forced into that direction) to work, but on the agitate cycle, it just spun in air, stripping it some more. It certainly 'felt' like it was the transmission, but it's not. It's actually a $5 motor coupling. Being Xmas day, and parts stores not being open, I removed the motor coupling and turned it around, putting the damaged end on the motor, and the 'pristine' end on the transmission. That looks like it'll 'buy' me a few more washes until I get another coupling.
I expect that in another couple of years, the transmission shaft will have stripped clean, which will be another interesting problem. Maybe a friend with welding equipment will be able to deposit a bit of extra steel on it, and I'll manage to file it back down to the right shape. But that's next year's problem. Maytag Atlantis Washer Disassembly
Unplug the machine from its power source when removing the Maytag agitator. Tape the washer lid to the top panel to prevent the lid from slamming open. Press the clips using a putty knife, and lift the front of the top panel. Lift the top panel to the bits service position, and swing the locking tabs out. Lift the container top and the dispenser away from the top. If the dispenser remains intact, insert a flathead screwdriver between the agitator and dispenser, and turn the blade of the screwdriver. Separate the dispenser from the washer, and put it aside.
Remove the center bolt of the agitator using an adapter and a socket wrench. Lift the agitator from the base, and remove it from the machine. After removing the agitator, the bottom of the Maytag tub is ready to clean.
